Romig and Ehrhardt Families Inducted into Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame
The ceremony, part of the Foundation’s annual Honors event presented by Hancock Whitney and New Orleans & Company, will take place on the turf of the Superdome. Attendees can expect speeches, the presentation of induction certificates, and a celebration of the families’ lasting impact on the city’s sporting culture.
The inductees represent four generations of Saints and city service. Mark Romig, the current play‑by‑play announcer for the New Orleans Saints, has been the voice of the team since 2013. His father, Jerry Romig, served as the Saints’ stadium announcer for 44 years, calling 446 consecutive home games without missing a single one. Jay Romig, a former athletic trainer who joined the Saints in 1977, has held leadership roles across football operations, business, and technology, and founded the club’s Information Technology Department in 1979. Mary Beth Romig Haskins, a senior communications executive and the Saints’ public‑address spotter since 1992, has spent 34 seasons delivering the stadium’s voice.
Joining them are Marc and Malcolm Ehrhardt, whose careers in journalism, broadcasting, public relations, and tourism helped shape the fan experience for Saints seasons, Super Bowls, NCAA championships, and other marquee events. Their work has reinforced New Orleans’ reputation as a world‑class sports destination.
"The Romig family has been synonymous with New Orleans sports for decades," said Philip Sherman, chairman of the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation board. "From Jerry’s unforgettable voice in the Caesars Superdome to Jay’s decades of service behind the scenes with the Saints and Mary Beth’s leadership in promoting New Orleans on the national stage, each has played an important role in strengthening our city’s reputation as a world‑class sports destination. Their collective commitment to our community, our teams and our signature events has left an enduring legacy, and we are proud to recognize them as part of this year’s Hall of Fame class."
Jerry Romig’s career began as a teenage sports reporter for The Times‑Picayune before serving in the Korean War. He later spent 19 years at WDSU‑TV, rising to vice president and program director, and worked for the state of Louisiana as director of communications for the Louisiana Public Hospital System and as director of marketing and public relations for the Medical Center of Louisiana. His civic leadership includes presidencies or chairmanships of the Sugar Bowl Committee, the Press Club of New Orleans, the New Orleans Rotary Club, and Goodwill Industries.
Jay Romig, a New Orleans native and graduate of Brother Martin High School and the University of New Orleans, has devoted his career to supporting the Saints behind the scenes. In addition to establishing the club’s IT department, he has coordinated training‑camp logistics, assisted with team travel, and served as a longtime board member of the Saints Hall of Fame.
Mary Beth Romig Haskins has built an accomplished career in communications and public relations. She currently serves as associate vice president of communications and public relations for New Orleans & Company, where she promotes the city and supports major events that attract visitors worldwide. Prior to that, she held roles as director of public relations and special projects for Mayor Mitch Landrieu, as a public information officer for the FBI, and as director of public relations for LCMC Health and its six hospitals.
Mark Romig, the current stadium play‑by‑play announcer, is also senior vice president and chief marketing officer at New Orleans & Company and a senior advisor to the Ehrhardt Group. He hosts the Mark Romig Show and has been the voice of the Saints since taking over from his father.
The induction underscores the long‑standing influence of the Romig and Ehrhardt families on New Orleans sports. Their work has helped elevate the Saints to a national brand, supported the city’s hosting of Super Bowls and NCAA championships, and contributed to the economic impact of sports events in Louisiana. The ceremony will publicly recognize their dedication to the community and to the growth of New Orleans as a premier sports destination.
Additional details about the event will be released by the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation as the date approaches.
