Nagpurs Chief Minister Highlights Sports Infrastructure Push at Khasdar Krida Mahotsav Closing Ceremony
During the ceremony, Fadnavis announced that Nagpur is rapidly emerging as a major sporting hub, backed by large‑scale investments in infrastructure and a growing culture of participation. He said the city is building a foundation that will produce skilled athletes and sports professionals while creating fresh career opportunities in the sector.
The week‑long festival, organized under the guidance of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, has evolved into an effective platform for talent identification and grassroots participation. Running from May 13 to May 28, the event expanded steadily over the years, offering training and exposure to thousands of athletes. Organizers reported that the programme featured competitions across 39 venues and a prize pool of 93 lakh rupees.
Fadnavis highlighted the emergence of a strong sports culture in Nagpur, noting that excellence in athletics is now valued on par with academic achievement. He added that increasing professionalism has opened diverse avenues for employment and growth, and that sports play a crucial role in instilling discipline, teamwork, and a competitive spirit among the youth.
Nagpur’s status as the second capital of Maharashtra and its designation as a Smart City provide a backdrop for the state’s broader sports development agenda. In a recent announcement, the Maharashtra government revealed plans to establish 25 centres of excellence and 96 sports development hubs across the state. These facilities aim to identify and nurture sporting talent at various levels and support athletes’ transition into professional careers.
The chief minister’s remarks underscore the city’s commitment to building a sustainable sports ecosystem. By investing in infrastructure and fostering a culture that values athletic achievement, Nagpur seeks to produce athletes who can compete at national and international levels. The Khasdar Krida Mahotsav serves as a key component of this strategy, offering a platform for grassroots participation and talent scouting.
As the festival concluded, Fadnavis reiterated the government’s pledge to continue supporting sports development in Nagpur. The city’s ongoing infrastructure projects, combined with initiatives like the Khasdar Krida Mahotsav, aim to position Nagpur as a leading destination for sports talent and professional opportunities in the coming years.
